چکیده

We study the strong gravitational lensing properties of galaxy clusters obtained from N-body simulations with standard ΛCDM cosmology. We have used the 32 most massive clusters from a simulation at various redshifts and ray-traced through the clusters to investigate the giant arcs statistics. We have found that ∼ 40 − 50% of the clusters that produce giant arcs give multiple arcs, which agrees with the RCSii observations. We have also investigated the mass distributions that are efficient in lensing and discussed various factors that are very important in the formation of giant arcs. Subject headings: cosmology: lensing — cosmology: large-scale structure

Lensed arc statistics: comparison of Millennium simulation galaxy clusters to Hubble Space Telescope observations of an Xray selected sample

It has been debated for a decade whether there is a large overabundance of strongly lensed arcs in galaxy clusters, compared to expectations from cold dark matter cosmology. We perform ray tracing through the most massive haloes of the Millennium simulation at several redshifts in their evolution, using the Hubble Ultra Deep Field as a source image, to produce realistic simulated lensed images....

0 Cluster Galaxies : Contribution to the Arc Statistics

We present the results of a set of numerical simulations aiming at evaluating the effects of cluster galaxies on the arc statistics. At this goal we use nine different galaxy clusters obtained from N-body simulations. We mimic the presence of a population of galaxies inside each cluster, trying to reproduce the observed luminosity function and the spatial distribution. We compare the statistica...

The Detection and Statistics of Giant Arcs behind Clash Clusters

We developed an algorithm to find and characterize gravitationally lensed galaxies (arcs) to perform a comparison of the observed and simulated arc abundance. Observations are from the Cluster Lensing And Supernova survey with Hubble (CLASH). Simulated CLASH images are created using the MOKA package and also clusters selected from the high-resolution, hydrodynamical simulations, MUSIC, over the...

Arc Statistics in Clusters: Galaxy Contribution

The frequency with which background galaxies appear as long arcs as a result of gravitational lensing by foreground clusters of galaxies has recently been found to be a very sensitive probe of cosmological models by Bartelmann et al. (1998). They have found that such arcs would be expected far less frequently than observed (by an order of magnitude) in the currently favored model for the univer...

Measurement of mass distribution of galaxy clusters using the giant luminous arc statistics with Le Fèvre et al.’s arc survey data

We have constructed a scheme to predict the number of arcs that should be observed in clusters, that fully takes into account both the detection conditions in the arc survey and the evolution of the source galaxies. The scheme has been applied to Le Fèvre et al.’s arc survey data in order to constrain the models of cluster mass distribution. The canonical model of the source galaxy evolution pr...

Ranking Law Journals and the Limits of Journal Citation Reports

Rankings of schools, scholars, and journals emphasize ordinal rank. Journal rankings published by Journal Citation Reports (JCR) are widely used to assess research quality, which influences important decisions by academic departments, universities, and countries. We study refereed law journal rankings by JCR, Washington and Lee Law Library (W&L), and the Australian Research Council (ARC). Both ...
